I was just down in Elkheart delivering a Kawasaki to a guy a few weeks ago. Your lucky you still have a month of good riding weather. Nice looking bike!

Thanks, the weather is still pretty nice with full gear on. I got the bike from a guy in Chicago who is a graphic designer. He sent me this image he had designed of what his original goal was. He wound up getting a bigger bike so he was getting rid of it. I noticed it because I had never seen any factory FJs in that paint color. I had been looking at them of and on for about the past year since I stumbled across the fact that they share connecting rod plane bearings with my other bike (1981 Yamaha XS 400 special ll) while I was searching for parts to get it rebuilt. This is only my second bike (I'm 19) but I had the other one since I was 14. The original reason I was interested in FJs was because they are air cooled and carbureted and I have had plenty of experience with that.

When he got the bike it had no chin fairing so he bought one and was planning to paint it but he temporarily plasti-dipped it. He gave me the black gel coat but it requires a catalyst (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) and I have my doubts if I could give it a nice finish. I would like to get the 1100 fairing in gloss black like he was planning, because he gave me the Yamaha decal in silver. I saw that eBay has them made by Pyramid across the pond and I was wondering if anyone has bought them and how good they are. Thanks

Hello Isaiah, welcome to the FJ Forum. We have some really smart talented folks here.
Re: Pyramid Plastics, yes I have their hugger on my T-Ace swinger and it is a nice piece.
There also is a place in SoCal that does the chin fairing: https://www.airtech-streamlining.com/yamaha-fairings-seats-fenders-parts/FJ11001984-85.htm although only in white.
Don't forget to plan on new insulation which is a must.

Pyramid sounds like the way I will go. I pulled the other fairing off today because I now need to fix a leaking clutch slave cylinder.

Where would I be able to find some? The one I pulled had nothing on it.

Also I swapped plugs today and thanks to your link at the bottom of your posts I made sure to safety wire the petcock. Never would have known about it.

Glad to help. Re: Heat shielding, aftermarket will be the way you have to go....no more oem from Yamaha.
I fit a cardboard pattern to the chin fairing, then transfer it to the shield material. That stuff is expensive.
