CHAIN WTF

Hello All    I am quite lost here with a drive chain problem   I bought this chain off EBAY  a few years ago for an 84 FJ1100  the chain is stamped  DID Japan 50VX...  no it is not stamped 520 vx2 like the rivet link I have or the other rivet link I have not DID but looks identical to the vx2. For want of a better description the EBAY chain is a big honking chain compared to the rivet links I have the end plates of the new rivet links are puny compared to my chain.
Because the chain was ordered for the FJ it was to long for the sprocket changes I did, it was out to near MAX adjustment so I decided to break it and shorten it and now I am in trouble because either new rivet link pins are to short to pass through old chain and have any length left over to attach the backing plate with the o rings in place, in fact the pins dont even protrude past the opposite side of the chain. I kind of knew this would happen because when i measured pin length on old chain before I broke it it was 0.9 and new pin length is 0.7
What I'm trying to say is that when I give shop people what is stamped on the chain DID 50VX they go huh? Fine but their links don't fit and when I look up DID 50VX  on my pooter I only see 520vx2 vx3 vxx.   Can anyone here help please my old chain is 0.910wide pin end to pin end and 0.80 plate to plate if this helps
      Thanks Chiz

The #50 industrial chain will need the proper connecting link. See chart for sizes https://www.peerchain.com/chain-pitches/

This link explains the 520/525/530 size. https://www.chainmate.co.uk/about-chainmate/chain-sizes-explained/

OK Thanks this would make my chain a #530 then?

FJmonkey

The 530 chain is .375 between the plates. The #50 chain is .400 between the plates. So a 530 connecting link is not likely to fit.

Just another tid-bit...not all master links are interchangable between brands of the same size chains.  Even though the nominal size is correct there are enough differences and tolerances to prevent using a DID on an EK or vice versa.

Yup found this out recently.

Do you have a picture of the box? Maybe it's a knockoff DID I have never heard of the 50vx either.

Recently in the US there were companies selling forged SFI, racing equipment. There were many others, as I was notified by SFI several months ago but these are just the latest to be found.

Got to the shop and had a look. DID does not offer a 50vx chain, at least here in the states. Also the VX chain they do offer is around 9,200 ft lbs tensile strength, for the 530 chain, their zvmx chain is 10,400 lbs. We have all seen what weaker chains can do https://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=17784.0  and other examples on here. Finally, the VX series only comes in 120 links, the FJ needs a 110 link chain. Whoever, was selling that on eBay, didn't know that apparently.

confusing     I have come across many references to  50VX  chain on the net now when  I search with this (did #50 vx chain) some sellers actually list their chain in the first line 50VX chain I dont know why    https://www.tradeinn.com/motardinn/en/ognibene-50-vx-x-ring-did-chain-kit-yamaha-yzf-600-r6/137634827/p       like this one. I suspect I bought similar but what was actually printed on the box was 530VX and it was 110 links.

Yea, that is the 530vx chain that is offered over here as well. A DID master link should work on it. 110 is the proper length from 17-42 and 17-38. I don't know what sprocket combo your running but a 110 will fit those and every combo inbetween.

Ok   14 Canadian Rubles later and a 530 DID link did the trick this #50vx stamped on my chain really messed me up.
