Dropped my FJ

Well my pride is hurt, I was travelling back to old stomping grounds to attend a party for my brother from another mother who has cancer. Doctor gave him two months of life. Round trip was a little over 400 km. Because many of the road signs have changed I missed my turn so I pulled over on a sloped gravel shoulder, no big deal right. It was a two lane highway and busy. I start to turn the bike around with the bars turned the highway was raised above the gravel and when I was looking for the traffic to give me a break I hit the raise road with bars already turned and bam, the bike slowly starts to go down, I fucked up. I broke the mirror off and in my haste to lift the big guy up I broke my wind screen. Great start to a visit. Talk about being humbled. Also lifting the FJ up in loose big stone gravel was a chore.

Glad that you are not hurt and the drop was low speed. And yes, the FJ is a heavy lump when it is on its side and only you to right it.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I did about the same thing when my FJ was newer.  My damage was scratched scoops.  Still have the scratches.

Wind screens and mirrors are an easy fix...Physical injuries, like knees and backs, not so much.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Bikes can be fixed easily.............Maybe replace the broken bits, but leave a few scratches. They will fondly remind you of your friend whenever you ride.

I know how you feel about picking up the heavy beast on loose gravel.
I had to pick this one up no less than three times a couple Sundays ago. Twice by myself, and once with the help of a passing dirt-biker.
She's over 600 lbs in "ready to ride" trim.
Not fun at around 11,000 feet!

Gumby,

Sorry to hear it; I wouldn't want to try that trick on loose gravel.

Good for you to see your friend, even with the mishap.  Hang tough, it really matters to him.

FWIW, lately I have seen some better-than-OEM windshields for the FJ, so you were probably due for an upgrade there, already.  Until then, you can find plastics welder (a dedicated glue in a tube).  Maybe that can keep things going there.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
