Hi all, i've been told a fazer top yoke will go onto my fj1200 1990 so I can put a set of flat bars on. Can anyone tell me their knowledge on this please, what size fazer? what year and is there any mods required to the fazer top yoke to make it fit??
Many thanks  Ian

Two things to check:
the diameter of the forks
the spacing between the forks
look at fork seal diameter for both if same it is the same
look at the manufactures of fork braces, if they are the same for both bike...great.. if not then... a no go
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

May want to look at the offset also, while you're measuring.

If by "fazer" you mean first generatio FZ1, then yes it will bolt up, BUT the FZ1 forks are 43mm vice the FJ 41mm forks.  I'll leave it to you on how you go about making up that difference.  Any quality job to correct that (besides fitting the FZ1 forks!!!) is liable to be more work, effort, and time than coming up with an alternate solution using the FJ top yoke or having a custom one fabricated.

Also, the FZ1 top yoke rubber mounted the handle bar risers - during aggressive countersteering you can FEEL the bars move in relation to the yoke!  Feels very not right!  You can press out the rubber bushings and fab some solid ones (I used aluminum), but again, you start getting into more time and $$ than some other solutions.

01 to 05 =G1 06 and later are G2 with inverted forks

I am not sure but I think the fork centers are wider on the FZ than on the FJ

Nope the first gen FZ1's are the same as the FJ. I bored my 91 FJ tripple clamps and risers and slid an entire 2002 FZ1 front end in works a charm......

Your too kind Pat, I'm not in the same league as you but I try to keep up the best I can. Not too bad for a tad over 107,000 miles.

Actually Rich - in Europe they call the FZ6 and FZ1 both with the name Fazer.  I remember at the very first West Coast Rally that Jeff Hoffman rode his FZ1 across the country to join us and had put European "Fazer" stickers on it cuz he thought they looked cool.

They still call it the Fazer in Europe: http://www.yamaha-motor-europe.com/products/motorcycles/fz_series/fz1_fazer.jsp

Remember - we are an International group here!   :good2:

P.S. - I like the white and blue two tone:

Lets not forget the 98-03 YZF600 based FZS fazer...
