After all the work on my bike and the money... I bought a Gorilla 7017 alarm and am installing this weekend
Any info would be helpful on where to mount everything
I have me tools and my Dyna  2000 in the tail section so I may need to move things.  :dash2:
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

Ok... I know it's not that interesting
Anyways I installed mine tonight
Here are pics

Moved my Dyna 2000 on its edge
Used Blue Loctite on screws

Paging antenna, movement sensor, Main unit

Different view with tool kit strap partly eaten by mice

Wired and rear cowl remounted

LED mounting

Wired to main unit (note after market fuel pump and regulator) I know big deal!

That's all folks.....

a 30 minute job took me 90 minutes
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

Does the rubber strap quiet down the alarm (speaker)?

How long have you had the Dyna working in the tail?

Why did you install a fuel pump and filter?   Did you change the fuel inlet seats in the carbs?

Are the black items down through the frame electrical wires or over flow tubes?   If they are wires, you may want to think about covering the sharp edges before they wear through the covering on the wires.

After living with the alarm for a few weeks, please report back your findings.  Likes; dislikes; features you wish you had, and features that are not necessary.

Good on ya for the creative install and even better for documenting it for us less than Kiwi folks!

I may be in the extreme minority here - but my belief has always been that motorcycle alarms are essentially useless.  I had a friend who had their Harley stolen and put in a pickup truck bed in less than 30 seconds - and that included getting out of the truck and getting back in - 4 guys and a truck is all it takes.

My 86 had an alarm on it when I bought it - I promptly threw it away.  Parking next to a Harley at a motel is the best form of theft prevention!

I am not trying to bag on you for installing one - great pics and info by the way - just voicing my opinion.  Maybe start a debate.

Think I'll agree with Marsh.  The biggest deterrent against having your FJ stolen is that it's heavy, and it's an older bike.  If I was a thief, I'd be going for the newish stuff to part on ebay or the like.  Park next to something easier to steal and you're golden.

The disc locks and such are good against people who want to run up, hotwire it, and ride away, but short of putting a shackle in the ground and a good chain on it (which takes about 20s to go through with the right tools), it's not going to stop someone who wants it badly enough.

Usually the goal is just trying to make it look unattractive to a thief in comparison to the bike down the road.

The strap is there only because i'm thinking it will keep the vibration down on the alarm while riding (or i was not in the mood to remove it
the Dyna has been there 3 years just before I decided not to install my turbo
those are overflow hoses
I have a pingel fuel valve and the fuel pump runs real low pressure to Mikuni RS carbs not the OEM setup

I know that an alarm is not the best form of deterrent but where I park it someone would have to really work getting it of of it's spot
so every bit helps... but I know what you mean that it is not a great or even good deterrent.

Ah, that makes sense now!  (carb/fuel info that is...)

I am mostly interested in the alarm with the 'paging' feature.   Quick chirps might make the little kids thing twice about it.  I do agree if it is wanted, there is little that makes the real difference.   The opportunity to turn this into a gun thread is about to loom.   I'd be wrong in the eyes of the law, but it brings me back to the law of the old west and stealing a man's horse.    :pardon:

I have yet to put a "Protected by Glock" sticker on the bike
