Buying another FJ!

For as much as I love my Trophy SE, I have a hankerin to get back on an FJ. I found a clean, garage kept 93 that's been sitting since 2013 that I'll be picking up next week. The gas smells like varnish, but I was able to at least here it run on carb cleaner (with the fuel pump disconnected) and it sounded great! I've never bought a bike that's sat this long without proper maintenance, any tips on getting all the old gas out and what else to look for?

Randy or anyone else at RPM, what does a set of ready to run carbs go for these days?

I believe they will also rebuild your carbs.

Thanks for the link. I checked the RPM site yesterday but went to carb parts instead of FJ specific. I like that they offer new carbs. I had the carbs on my previous FJ rebuilt at a cost of around $500, so for the extra money for brand new it's probably the better way to go.

I'm sure you could sell your old carbs in the classifieds here as well, and offset the cost.  I bought a set for parts to rebuild mine.

I'm sure I could sell them too. Though now I'm second guessing myself and wondering if I should buy the FJ or not. I really don't like that because of the bad gas I can't test ride it. Plus I don't really NEED it, but I do WANT it. It's a good deal at $2900, and it's got less than 10k on it, but after sitting for 8 years what else will it need? Sigh, what to do!

Do not buy a wet stored (fuel) non running FJ for $2,900. Regardless of mileage.
You will have rust in the tank ($?) need the carbs cleaned ($500)  new tires ($350)  brake lines ($300) slave seal ($50) etc, etc,

$2,000 to $2,200 max.

No doubt Pat, those are definitely items I've thought about that it will need!

Low mileage, underused cars/bikes are rarely the deal they appear to be. Pat's list only touches on some of the disadvantages. I well used and cared for example with 3 of 4 times that mileage would be a far more desirable bike.
Despite my lack of understanding of gravity fuel flow, I've had many such vehicles brought to me over the years to be returned to service and they're just never a nice drive/ride.

Thanks everyone for the feedback; I've decided that I won't buy this one.
