Variance in tire size

This subject has been mentioned before, but has not been cover in a few years.

The subject is 180/55/17 rear tires installed on 17"x5.5" wheels. Most brands and models fit and clear the chain on the left and the swingarm on the right. The exception seems to be Dunlop. I currently have a Dunlop GPR300 on my 95 FJ. I don't have any cleance issue due to having a FZ1 swingarm. I have noticed as a visual that the tire seemed wider when compared the the 180/55/17 tires on Casper (1990 FJ) with a Continental Conti-Motion, and Minnie (1990 VFR750) with a Michelin Road 5.

I installed a set of Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires today. I took a crude measurement of both tires. The Dunlop was 1/4 or 6.35mm wider than the Pirelli. With the existing cleaner that the Pirelli has in the OEM swingarm, I can easily see where there could be an issue with the Dunlop.

I can definitely say that there is a difference in tire width between the Pilot Road 5 and Pilot Road 4 and 3.
The PR-5's do not play well with my hugger.
