COVID-19 Strikes close to home

I expected it sooner or later, but still, it's not real comfortable.

My mother is and has been in assisted living.

As I scrolled through the news tonight, one article jumped out at me.

One of the employees at her facility tested positive for COVID-19

It was only a matter of time.

With all the other crap going on in the world, well, it's been a year.

Wishing you and yours the best

I hope things work out well for your mother. Stay safe.

It's bit closer to home for us already, not being able to visit my mother in the final days before her passing because of the care-home lockdown and now losing a couple of people we know locally to Covid 19.

This is real and people need to be careful, I really hope your mother (and all those close to her) comes through this unscathed Steve and trust that the care home employee recovers well and can return to helping those who need it.

I have had too much experience with nursing homes, unfortunately.  They are a perfect place for viruses to spread, also unfortunately.  Keeping relatives and those primarily responsible for the elder person out is a terrible idea.  My mom was in a home for quite a long time.  Most of the nurses and assistants there were quite good but I still had to supervise their actions and correct issues.  When it came to medical issues I was the one who had the responsibility, only in dire emergencies were the on-site personnel authorized to act.
If there was anyway possible I would not allow a home to restrict my access.  My Mom passed 2 years ago so I don't have to deal with this current situation.  My sympathies to those who do.

Given that we were on lockdown and I was living in a Covid 19 "hot spot", whereas the care home my mother was in, was in an area relatively untouched by Covid 19 at the time, even if I was allowed to visit, my conscience wouldn't let me do so, for the risk that I might unknowingly/unwittingly take the infection into the care home and possibly risk infecting/killing a good number of my mothers fellow residents.

I'm just not selfish enough to take that risk when others lives are at stake.

I appreciate the kind comments.

My mother and I talked this morning, of course.

She said a nurse came in at 7:00AM and told here what happened.

They had an employee return back to work, and all employees have their temperature taken upon arrival.

This employee had a fever, she said she had been traveling, and that she had a sore throat. So, they tested her for COVID-19 and she came up positive.

The system worked, this time, this instance.

I guess "selfish" would be appropriate if the reason was just to visit.  On the other hand no employee can be expected to look after a resident like a relative.  They're just too busy with too many others to take care of.  I do agree that the decision has to be made on a case by case basis.  I just react negatively to being told I can't do something that I know to be necessary.  The employees go home, right?  They do what ever they do when they're "out there".  I would hope that they are just as prudent as I would be.

OOPs, just saw Randy's post on No More....This was not meant to be political but still feeling my way around the new rules.

The home had a resident test positive.

Another wing from my Mom.

It's just a matter of time, I value each and every phone call.

Life on life's terms.

3 more residents tested positive and 1 kitchen staff member.

Prayers and best wishes

Thanks, much appreciated.

I talked to her today and she was in really good humor.

Amazingly good.

Donald sent her money, made her day.

And she called the number on TV for all those free benefits and they approved her. She said she'll be getting free vision, free dental, this that and the other thing that she always wanted -

I did not have the heart to tell her it was probably a scam. She's so happy, it's probably worth the price of admission.....

OH!

And she joined the ASPCA -

It was quickly becoming time to end the call, left it positive, tried really hard......

All good
