Need help with this one...My 89" runs excellent..2mins-10mins or 20 mins with no warning into a ride it starts to lose power sputtering eventually stalling.  I turn the bike off then I re-start it.  For one second the bike sounds like it doesnt have enough power to turn over then it starts right up and runs fine again.  This repeats itself several times during a ride making it frustrating.  I have taken off the carbs and cleaned them a dozen times:jets are all good, floats working, replaced o rings, seats and needles, new fuel filters etc.  I dont know which direction to take now. Can anyone help me???? :diablo: :diablo:

I'd check the vent in the gas cap.  you can remove the little red rubber flapper-- diaphragm. (If it hasn't already  been removed)  there is an explanation in the files under modifications--gas cap info-- on how to take the cap apart.  Do it on a clean workbench adn be careful not to have the little spring go off in flight when you're taking the cap apart. It may not be the problem, but it won't hurt the bike and you'll eliminate one possilble cause.  also, it's free.

check the ground/negative wire on the battery (to the rear of the engine block) for resistance.... mine was rotted out up under the shielding where the wire is crimped onto the terminal. Gave me all kinds of weird running issues until it finally went completely bad and gave me a no start situation......  somewhere close to 20 volts can pass into the system when this ground fails (BOILED BATTERY ANYONE?).

after repairing mine i also added an extra chassis ground just to make sure the shunted voltage from the regulator has someplace to go.

I checked it over...looks lik new..I never put a meter on it though...My bike only has 16000miles on it..very good shape but it was stored for 12 years prior to me getting it going a few weeks ago..thanks
