I was watching television this morning and saw that Nick Clifford passed away this past week. (https://youtu.be/bEYBFyRo-2U?t=65)

I was fortunate to meet this man and listen to his story when we visited the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore in 2015. While Nick was there selling and signing his book of his time working on the monument, I listened to his tales.

I bought a book and he signed it. I was able to ask many questions and he was gracious enough to answer them. Fortunately, he seemed to enjoy my questions, because they weren't the same old questions everyone asked. His wife was shuffling people right through as he signed, took a photo and asked their question. I stood off to the side and just listened at the history this man had been a part of and witnessed.

One of the last questions I asked him before we parted was, why are you here signing books and not off enjoying life. He told me, Mount Rushmore was, in his younger days, his source of income and had again become his income later in life. He was able to find comfort in telling his story and it also provided him with financial support that allowed him to live comfortably in his later years.

I will share my time with this man with my grandchildren one day.

Unfortunately, time stands for no man.
