Dieselman7.3

So after seeing a box of parts for the last 2 weeks I finally had the time Saturday to rip the carbs off and put my new jets in (thanks to randy at rpm) and my new uni pods. Bike idles great and runs awesome. I just got done putting new brake pads in the front. Looks like I have a weeping caliper on the left side.  My question is what's involved with these blue/gold dots? And where do I find them? If I'm changing my caliper I'm going to upgrade them.   I also have a little bit of a rattle above 4K rpm bike runs fine and might just be loose plastics and what not. Just checking to see if it's common.   Thanks

RPM - Robert

eBay 2003-2005 FJR. 98-02 R6 and R1 are also compatible (not positive on those years.) but usually more expensive.

Difficulty: Easy

Unbolt your old calipers.
Install new calipers with new banjo crush washers.
Bleed.
Ride away.

Most people decide to change the master cylinder to the FJR m/c as well. The stock brake lever pull with blue spots seems to be quite stiff, to some it doesn't bother them.

This in turn will lead you to install a matching FJR clutch master as the lid is a different shape than stock and no linger matches the other side.

And thus moditus can no longer be stopped for you. Welcome to the dark side.

Perfect timing on this post. I was starting to look at what years work.

thank you Robert.

Just found a pair of 04 fjr blue dots for $50 on eBay. Says I should have them by Friday.  Now for ss brake lines and probably fjr masters. Do they have have adjustable levers? Anyone running different master cylinders.  Thanks again

Stop.

You forgot to tell us the year of your bike. Folks forgot to ask.

You have an '85 and those brake calipers will not fit your forks.

Oh crap. I have an 85 fj1100.
How far off are they gonna be? Something I can make a bracket for?

Yes, you can make brackets or buy them, your existing dual face vented rotors are too thick for the caliper, so you need to change your rotors over to the single face style.
Or
You could change your forks (or at least fork lowers) over to the '89+ FJ lowers and use the FJ 17"x3" front rim and rotors. (The '87/88 FZR front rim is 3.5" wide and a better choice)

The Blue/silver/gold spot Yamaha monoblock calipers (axial mount) are plug and play with the '89+ FJ's

Unfortunately not with the early '84-87 FJ's

Dieselman..Go to your profile and put in your signature line 1985 FJ1100 and this will automatically appear in all your future posts.
This will help us help you.

Okay thank you Pat for your help I'll see this weekend when they show up. Fork upgrade sounds nice but I think that's going to be out of my budget for a little while. I have intentions on upgrading the suspension all around. I'm keeping my eyes open for parts bikes of all kinds to really get some customization.

The FJ,s rear brake is more that adequate for the task. Some even say it's probably a little too aggressive.
I have the Gixxer rear wheel upgrade on my 84, and I can tell you the suzuki brake with that wheel wouldn't stop and argument, compared to the OEM FJ brake.

Okay thank you I'll leave that stock then.
Should have my blue dots tomorrow and I'll see about what I'll have to do to mount them. Bikes in the shop now getting new tires and an inspection.
