Hoping some folks could chime in..Its another bike an 80 xs850 shaft of course. Have not been able to figure this out and there fore have not pulled anything apart again.
   
   Here it is if I roll the bike across a dusty driveway(mine because of street watermain work) I get a dust pattern around the tyre that is uneven, for want of a better term the "chicken strip"
' either edge is not the same, there is at least a centimeter difference if not more. This is also noticeable from just riding, the wear is uneven. I cant for my life figure out what is wrong.

   I don't really want to remove the 3 into one so I can eye ball the wheels from ground level.The string method is confusing me as well...as the front wheel is straight the string is about 5/8" off the back edge of the front tyre I can change this buy turning the handle bar so the string touches the back edge of the tyre but then the wheel is not straight.

   In this position the string will touch the outside edges of the rear tyre on the same side. First of all it would appear the front end is off....... this would leave the rear tyre of which an expert might say it's your front end that is the culprit.

    Keep in mind there is no Axel adjustment this is fixed the only adjustment is the centralizing of swingarm which is done by pushing the arm over at the pivot point by screwing in or out of the pivot pins.

    Any tips would be most welcome.

I don't like the string method either....

I have a pair of 1 x 1 square steel tubes 7' long I use. I clamp them on each side of the back tire and they extend to the front for my measurements.

OMG man just removed the exhaust system the bloody engine is floating around in the frame loose as an old w--re... This is going to be a contributing factor.
