Prepping for a long ride

As my plan is to attend the WCR, I'm making plans for some tools and spare parts.  Fred and I had a long discussion tonight about stuff he brings on his rides.  A spare relay was already in my list but Fred made mention of a main relay.  Would that be item number 1 in this diagram from Partzilla?

Other stuff I'll be bringing;

used but working ignitor box
spare fuses
electrical wire
electrical tape
engine oil
tools
air compressor
flat repair kits, (yes Pat, the mushroom style plus the rope)

That's what I remember so far.  Feel free to chime in if you feel there is something critical I am missing.  To some of you I may be over packing but I'll be riding solo up and back and much of the ride is in the middle of nowhere.  Thanks for your opinions guys.

The item marked #1 is the Starter solenoid. #3 is the main relay.

If you ever have to flat bed tow your bike, you need ^^^these straps. The large hooks on the tow truck's straps will cause major damage to your fairing. Keep those nasty ass hooks away from your bike !

Show of hands.  How many people suffered a failure while on a trip and what was it?

I used to carry all kinds of shit to a rally "just in case."  Slave/master cylinder rebuild kits, carb parts, spare coil and ignition unit (only because it was Dynatek shit), plugs, and a ton of wrenches.

I never used any of it!  Usually I ended up having to give it to others.  And do you know why?  Because they would show up without doing any PM on their bikes!

Do a tune up and start with new tires.  Inspect your throttle cables, check the slave cylinder and see if any of the master cylinders are leaking. Are the fork seals seeping?  How did the wheel bearings feel during the last tire change?  Are the carbs in good shape?

Your highest probability of failure is going to be a tire puncture.  Be sure to have a plugging kit and some way to inflate the tire.

The more you're prepared before you hit the road, the less you have to worry about while on it.

Bottomline is take whatever makes you feel comfortable.  But don't "what if?" yourself to death.  You don't have to take an entire set of spare parts.

Yup, about 300 from the City.  I might leave from Ukiah so it's 240 I think.

I actually asked a former LEO friend of mine who possesses a CCW about that.  He says he doesn't carry while riding because there's really no good place to carry a firearm on your body when you're suited up and think about what would happen if you went down on that side of your body.  Serious ouch!
