I just finished changing four tires on my two fj's and two on the zzr1200.I've always heard to install the red dot(the lightest part of the tire) next to the valve stem(supposedly the heaviest part of the rim.I always check the balance of the rim when I have the tire off and mark the heaviest spot.I have yet to find a rim where the valve stem was the heaviest spot.    The last wheel I did needed no weights at all.I have the 90 degree valve stems from RPM they are hard to see in the picture.

Old school bubble balancer or high tech dynamic balancer?

BTW, I was in your territory last weekend for a half day trip.  MF'ing cold up there.  We saw 5F over the Sierras.

I wouldn't call it high tech but it is a spin balancer. The weather has warmed into the mid fiftys with strong winds most of the low snow is melted.my two fj's are still trapped behind a sea of mud in Ian's garage, but I was able to get my 71 cb750 out for a ride.
