Slight crack in oil pump cover an issue?

Hi,
While riding today I noticed a slight crack on the oil pump cover (aka pick-up cover), with some rubber gasket missing. No oil leaking as far as I can see. Is this an issue to ride with? And what could be the cause? Only thing I can think of is engine overheating.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the cause but the cover keeps the dust out. And it prevents things like pant legs from getting caught in the spinny thing. It looks safe to ride.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Thanks. Useful function, anti-spinny-thing-trap. So there's no oil directly behind the cover? Kinda don't want the bike to empty its guts all over the place..

Just 4 screws to remove to see inside. The screws are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard), Philips bits can round out easy so pay attention if you are not using a JIS bit. New screws can be had in different styles at RPM, see banner above.

No oil sump, just the cover to protect ignition system and crankshaft seal.

We have new replacement covers, gaskets and screw in stock.

As the large primate mentioned - it's more of a dust cover/spinny thing cover, as well as another place for Yamaha to put their name!  The crankshaft oil seal should keep all the oil inside the crank cases.  We ran at the Colorado Mile last year without that cover while trying to troubleshoot a random synch/reset issue we were having (nothing you would have issues with while using stock or Dyna ignition system).

Thanks for all the input. I'll do a quick-fix for now and deal with a proper replacement come winter storage.

As Above No Oil behind just the ST.

I had one the same for quite a few years, no pant legs were injured.

Only changed it to make it look prettier.
