i had secondgear broken on my FJ1100 20years ago this is how it was.... first month it was exactly as semi ed desribed as if i was doing many clutchup rapidly .
it was under hard accelration in second gear.Then it got worse with bigger intervalls and also jumped out from second gear but if i was driving easy it was okay.i just keep riding with it and for a long time i ignored  it.Then one day (not to scare those who riding wit broken second gear but take it as a warning ) i go down in a curve because the rearwheel was locking up .I was lucky because i had low speed ,but only seconds before i was in very high speed.
the transmission had locked up and it was impossible to set the bike in neutral or any other gear had to get a truck and lift it in to drive it home.i had a skilled mekanick
to fix it for me for the half og the price yamaha dealer wanted.
