Burned up another rectifier

I've just discovered that the voltage rectifier (Rick's Motorsports) in my 89 FJ has fried. Replaced it earlier this year. Either the alternator is doing this, or the rectifier was of poor quality. Several years ago I got tired of replacing the regulator, and swapped it out for a remotely mounted Transpo unit. That has worked flawlessly. Any thoughts?

Yes, I am very happy with the Transpo VR mod. I think the key to longevity is to get the VR's electronics away from the engine heat and vibration.

Re: rectifier: There is a field wire that the generator uses to sense battery voltage. If there is excessive voltage drop or loss of continuity on this wire, the generator thinks that the battery voltage is low and goes into full output charging mode. I would check out this field wire.

Hope this helps
