U.S. 129 will be closed until around July 31st according to what I heard. The wife and I just returned from down there. US 28 is open and parts of Highway 64 are closed due to landslides in the area. The folks in TN are resisting help from NC. They say that there is law enforcement problems and rescue difficulties involved in this situation. Right at the Cross roads of time the road is only open 8 tenths of a mile from the barricades there. The road is blocked off at the TN state line and no access is available. To get to Robbinsville you have to take a long detour which will take you through the Cherohala Sky way. The Sky way is in good shape and road surface is good with very little gravel on the pavement. Tellico Plains is enjoying the boost to it's economy with the increased traffic. It is late and I will post more later.

For the latest go to this website: http://news.tennesseeanytime.org/node/4837. It is the official tdot news source that handles the press releases. Latest I have seen is that they plan to reopen the road by July 1, 2010. They are losing money on the North Carolina side. we stopped at the cross roads of time and you could have had any room you desired. It was EMPTY. No bikes at all.
