Centre Stand Droop

During a VJMC ride last Sunday a couple of riders pointed out that the centre stand of my 84 1100 seemed to be hang a bit low. I checked it when we got home thinking the spring was the problem but it looked ok. Pulled the mounting bolts and the reason was clearly evident - the mounting bolts are worn out. See pic.
At least I can take the time to clean and paint the stand now that I have it off.
As far as the bolts go I'm not sure whether I'll buy new ones (second hand bolts are likely to be worn too) or, weld up the worn section so I can reuse them.

Krusty,

Re-install the center-stand, bolts, and nuts.  Leave the nuts snug, but not tight. 
Rotate each bolt to get the maximum possible center-stand droop. 
When you can't make the center-stand droop any more by turning either bolt, mark a vertical line across the bolt head of each bolt.
Rotate each bolt 180 degrees, so the marked line is again vertical.  Hold the bolt in that position with a wrench.
Tighten the nut to specs.  Hold the other bolt with a wrench, and tighten that nut also..

That process should cure your center-stand droop for another decade or two.    :biggrin:   
In the USA, the new bolts needed would cost about US$8.00 each.

I did trawl ebay for replacements but shipping was a killer.
Would JB Weld do the job? I bought some when I was in US last year and have yet to use it.

I would rather braze the bolts up and grind them back to the original diameter before I would use JB Weld. Better yet would be to have them welded up and turned them back to the original diameter. But once you do all that, the bolts from RPM at $10.99 a piece are starting to look like a real good deal.

What I described would not need JB-Weld, but if you can get the metal clean enough, JB might hang in there.

You might want to try some USA sources, and see if anybody will ship to Oz.  Send an email to each of these guys, and if nobody offers to help, maybe I can find some others.

Krusty,
With the bolts worn out that badly, I would bet that the holes on the stand are also elongated.  Replacement bolts in worn out holes may not solve the issue.  If it is only the bolts you need, I may have some good ones kicking around...

I may be placing an order with RPM very shortly so if you are worried about shipping costs, don't, my shout for shipping.
and I'll try to go for a run up the coast to drop them off to you also. So if you're in no particular rush let me know, I might even have to check mine, its something you just take for granted.

One easter weekend we went for a ride of about 1000k to see a mate and on the way there my side stand broke and then my centre stand decided to bend on one side so that when you put it up it lurched away from you like it was going to fall over but then stopped, That did make the weekend seem even longer, especially the 1000k home, not a good feeling.

Thanks for the replys and offers.
I only mentioned JB Weld cos I was feeling lazy.
I'm putting an order together for Randy for suspension upgrades.
I did check the holes for elongation and it looks minimal and spring is good.
I think I'll drag my MIG from the back of the garage and fire it up.

One thing that is really noticeable is that the 1100 so so much easier to get onto the centre stand than my 1200. Is this normal or could it be due to the worn bits on the 1100?

It depends on how close to the ground the rear wheel is. When I put a 17" rear wheel on the rear I lowered the rear wheel more than the stock position. It made the center stand almost effortless. 
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
