I was browsing the oil shelf at the store the other day and noticed an interesting trend in the synthetic oil area.

A number of manufactures now tout their synthetic oils are made from a Liquefied Natural Gas base.

Did a bit of research on the subject and it appears the LNG base oils perform quite well compared to the other types of base oils.  $25 or so for a 5qt jug for the stuff is not a bad price either.

Think I'll give it a go in the new truck when I'm due for the first oil change.  I realize the LNG base oils have been out for a while, but it's been a number of years since I've looked at anything other than I had had been using for a long time.

For high temp use....I'm curious to see how the LNG base stock compares to Ester based stock.

I only use Ester based synthetic oil in my hot climate (Red LIne) That stuff just flat out does not burn off like others...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is LNG and is the business for car engines....just a PITA to find. Guys that are anal about oil analysis report absolute minimal amounts of material in the used oil. Oh God....I responded to an oil thread! :flag_of_truce:
