Hi all
First time here , just picked up a non running 1984 fj1100 , everything turns on and turns over but she won't start.
I pulled the diaphragms in the carbs out last night and quite a few repairs as well as a few oin holes in 3 of the 4
Would that stop the bike from starting ?

A few pin holes will not prevent the bike from starting. Make sure the plugs are producing a spark. Make sure the petcock is set to the on position. Give the petcock the suck test to make sure fuel flows with vacuum. If not then switch the petcock over to PRI to get fuel into the carbs. Switch it back when you are done working on it. Verify that the choke is working and it actuates the rod on the carbs to open the choke circuits. Check the air filter. Check all the easy stuff first. How long has it been sitting? Was the fuel drained out for storage?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Thanks FJ Monkey
Yes she's been sitting awhile , supposedly the PO reckons its Carb related , the only visible things I could see were the small pin holes ( and a few bigger ones on a second inspection )
I'll check spark and fuel taps next ...fresh fuel

Now that we know it has sat with fuel then you have a clogged up set of carbs. The pilot jets are most likely plugged solid and other varnish related issues. A proper rebuild is in order for the bike to run well again. You should still be able to start the bike on the choke circuit. How bad do the inside of the carb bowls look?

Pretty gummed up as you guessed , I'll rebuild them completely ...
Any issues I should check for while I'm in there ?
Thanks
