I got a non-FJ bike.

I happened onto a super deal on a R1100RS. I tried it, I liked it. It's a totally different character than the FJ, other kind of fun.

However, you're not going to be rid of me any time soon - I am still fixing that blue 1993. :blum1:

I am tempted to simply alter your post title, but I won't. Your purchase is not breaking any rules. In fact, it embraces what many here enjoy about motorcycle ownership. We may tease and bash some brands of motorcycle but in reality there is joy in the variety in owning and riding a mix of bikes. I look forward to your posting of your riding experience on your BMW. The shaft drive makes some of maintenance easier and it looks like a similar long wheel base so the longer faster rides won't be unlike an FJ, just might be less buzzy.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

My tongue is very firmly in my cheek.

Like I said, I'm not de-FJing completely. I do need to lose one, to close the hole in the budget, but the 1993 project is chugging along, and I intend to keep it awhile.

Also, I am planning on working up the proper BMW pilot snobbery.

I look forward to your "Proper BMW pilot snobbery"... (FWITW I have no issues against BMW, but my wallet tells a different story...)  :pardon:

Lmfao.  Glad to see you can appreciate and enjoy different bikes. I have several different brands and sizes as I am sure fellow members do also. I even--gasp--own a Hardly Ableson though I hate to get hung up behind them when I'm on the FJ. Each and every one offers something different. But the FJ is my favorite for fun and speed. Enjoy the Beemer.     Dave
A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

What year is it? Don't want to be a downer but... there was a major issue with the final drive from the late 90's to mid 2000's +/- that the NHTSA investigated and they had a recall.  This will explain it better - also check the end of the article for diagnosis.

BMW Final Drive

They are a great bike otherwise - I had a '97 1100GS for a while.  A real mile muncher, and great handling.  Have fun  :drinks:
