Lastly, there is a certain U.K.-based FJ club that restricts tech data and parts/accessories sales to paid club members ONLY. Is our forum headed that way? Just curious.

Steve

I used to be a member of the UK site, but even as a paying member he wasn't interested in selling to - or helping - non UK members.

Steve I will answer the questions below in blue.

Questions:

There is a link on the home page to an FJ Rally site, circa 2011. Did that site come with the forum? Will it ever be updated, or just a memory of rallies past.

The FJ Rally website was not part of the purchase. It will remain there until it goes offline for posterity.

Why the secrecy surrounding the new Uber-User identity? I happened to see the e-mail address associated with that user (A few days ago, I think) before it got hidden, and have an idea who it may be. Again, why the secrecy?

Well, I thought I explained it well, but since there are some members who are not comfortable revealing their issue(s) to me or possibly another moderator, the thought of an anonymous person would be the next step of contact. This was evident this week by a member creating a disparaging member name to present his displeasure. He did not bring up any issue to me about anything with the forum, just a degradating/slanderous user name. If he told any of the old moderation team, none of them communicated with me. I am confident the new moderation team would definitely be in contact with me if there was an issue in question. The moderators will bring it to me, leave the actual members name out of the mix, and we can work through the issue. Pretty simple really.

Since The Boss has not been selected yet, if you saw any email at this point it would be the one I created for the position. The email too will be unidentifiable to any specific member. I would be interested in knowing who you think it is...

Did Bill (theFan) leave mad? Really? He seemed like a very knowledgeable and  friendly guy when I met him in Tellico. Hope there's no grudge.

I don't know if he left mad, but he obviously thought I am in this just to make money from the forum. I think I have laid out the reasons in the original post of why that will probably never happen. If he has any issue with me or the forum, that is his choice. He has the choice to participate on the forum free of charge just like everyone else who chooses that option. He also has the option of contributing to the forum if he does not want to see the banner ads. He left because he thought he was a "profit center" for me. Unfortunately has was uninformed about how all of this was set-up by Marsh a long time ago, I did not change a thing. If there is a grudge, that will be something Bill has to answer. This forum, and me for that matter, will be here if he chooses to to come back and participate. He is more than welcome to do so.

There is no plan to go down the road of the U.K. forum and UK FJ Club/shop. One misconception is people believe the forum is connected to the shop, they are not connected. The http://www.fjfjrbiker.co.uk/ is owned by a great guy by the name of Bob. Just I had previously had done with Marsh, I sponsor that forum as well to help him offset his costs of the forum operation.

Your membership to the U.K. forum does not allow you to purchase from Doc and the FJ Owners Club/Shop. You have to pay Doc a separate annual fee to be able to purchase from him or use his shop services.

The only restrictions this forum has, and has had for as long as I have known, is you have to be a member to view certain sections of this forum. That is not a "paid" member, just a member.

Steve, I think all of this has been an over reaction by a couple of un or misinformed members. Heck, maybe there is more that have left and just did not say anything, I don't know. This the reason I decided to put down the information in writing. When long time members leave the forum based on their misconceptions, I felt I needed to shed some light on what really is happening and the forum is an expense not a profit center.

Randy,
Sorry, I was mistaken in what I thought I saw. It was actually one of the OTHER new admin user accounts, whose e-mail address is currently not hidden.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Steve
Embracing the change. It's all I have left.

Well call me crazy, but trying to organize a Rally via TXT messaging would be a bit problematic.   :pardon:

Although, I suppose we could try semaphore stations and/or carrier pigeons.  :scratch_one-s_head:

Randy, your efforts are severely under appreciated. I've upped my contribution to $100/yr. Complainers should put up or STFU.

Thanks Marsh for all you did.
Thanks Randy for what you are doing and trying to do.
I like your banner because I'm forgetful.
I haven't been to a rally, and I don't participate in the forum much either, but I visit when I can and read some posts. I have been a $ contributor for a while, it's pretty much required in the Venturers forum, and I get as much technical information here as I do there. Heck, were it not for this forum I would have sold the FJ for the blinking oil light. On contributing, I could use a reminder when it's been a year.

Well the only driver named Stig that I ever remember is Stig Blomquist - a hot 70's era rally driver from Sweden. He was known for lighting up the night sky with his glowing red brake rotors, since he had a technique of keeping the hammer down on the gas, never letting up on the revs, even while pounding down with his other foot on the brakes.

Back to today - count on me to make a donation well in excess of a buck. I'm often negligent of paying attention to what it takes to run a member site. Yet I should know, I've administered a few in my time, as the techie guy from the shadows. The poor up front owners and administrators take the brunt of criticisms at the most minute level. It gets to be a lot of baby sitting of personalities through private emails, potentially Randy is experiencing some of that, that we'll never know about. You think motorcyclists are a problem? Try dealing with tournament fishing fanatics, i.e. bassaholics. Or artists. Good lord!

The cash to pay the hosting bills doesn't come close to making up for the time and Advil involved in keeping things humming when there is an active member forum. So when it's time to pony up, think of what it's worth to have the site, not what you think it "costs".

Thanks for keeping FJowners on the air.
