Hello worldwide FJ riders! Bought my 1986 FJ1200S brand new in 1996. The Racine WI dealer was known for having still crated carried over for many years new bikes. My FJ had been on display in the dealer's showroom for 10 years! When I got it home I removed, fogged & bagged the center stand & rear signal assemblies, removed the clear wind screen & wrapped it in bubble wrap, installed a slightly taller smoked screen with a slight top flip, replaced the black steel tube bar bracing the rear caliper with a drilled for lightness cast aluminum bar from a 1986 Yamaha SRX-6 & replaced the red & pearl white with Yamaha lettering chin fairing with an all pearl white from Yamaha chin fairing. After the FJ was broken in I put all synthetic fluids in it. I've kept it serviced, polished, waxed, kept the down pipes silicone sprayed. It's always garaged & covered & now has 16K miles on it, still running & looking showroom new. When I was 16 my buddy let me try his 50's BSA Road Rocket, I was hooked & have had bikes ever since. My favorites of bikes I've owned are the 250cc Ducati Diana desmo (30hp 10KRPM single), 900F Honda, SRX-6 Yamaha, & the "torque monster" FJ1200. I'm 75 & don't ride much anymore, but each time I do the FJ has me grinning like the first time I rolled on its throttle.

Thanks FJm, I'm glad to be on board.

Here's an FJ quirk that might have already been shared on the forum: gas starvation problem, one possible cause is blocked gas tank breather in gas tank cap. To eliminate blockage blow it out with gas station air hose.

Giantkiller,

14K miles in 3 months, my helmet's off to you! Makes my longest ride to FL & back seem mighty puny.

If you're ever riding to Milwaukee let me know, I'll do the same if heading for Fond Du Lac.

Harald, I really liked the 900F. When it came on the cams it was like a steam catapult was throwing the bike ahead. Bought it in '83 as a carried over '82 discounted from $3400 to $1695! Best vehicle deal of my life at a time when Japan way overestimated the # of bikes they could sell & was wildly discounting the overproduction.
