hot fuel tank!

in the low 90*s the other day and i had her out for a few hours
parked the bike in the garage when i got home, closed the door and went in
came back 5mins later and was afraid to open the garage door fearing a spark from the door opener would cause an explosion from all the fuel vapor
seriously!
the vent in the fuel cap was at a near whistle, opening the fuel cap would result in an audible "woosh" of air releasing itself from the pressurised fuel tank

the FJ ran strong the whole time never acting anywhere near overheating

heat shield is in place and in good condition mounted on the underside of the fuel tank

is this normal?
i know there are plenty of members here from much hotter places than the central Colorado rockies. Do you experience these symptoms also?
seems like something i should be concerned about

Yes, it's common. A heat soaked bike in absence of airflow (parked) will remain hot for some time, especially so at altitude (thin air)
1) A Flappectomy is in order.
2) Always let your bike cool down before rolling it into an enclosed garage.
3) Get into the habit of turning your forks to the right or left, preventing heat deformation on the rear half of your front fender.
