hi guys wondering if any one has found a way to shorten the throw on a 89 fj12. I have replaced all the throttle cables but it still takes a double take for full throttle that isnt really a problem when im riding sensibly but when releasing the banshee its a little annoying. did wonder if an xjr1300 throttle might be better?

cheers

Maybe try an R1 or R6 throttle tube -- drag racers on different bikes (busas etc) often fit R1 or R6 throttle tubes for quicker throttle response

You need to do one or more of the following:
1. As mentioned above, get a throttle tube that has a larger diameter pulley than the FJ, this will pull more cable for the same amount of rotation. You may need to get longer cables made.
2. Get carbs like Skymasterers had, his flat slides would go from idle to WOT in about 1/4 turn, very touchy. Or find a smaller radius pulley on the carb end, I am not aware that anyone has done this so it seems unlikely. It is not a simple part so modification is also not likely.
3. Re-position your throttle grip to grab more throttle when you want to visit the Kookaloo zone quickly.

I run the R6 tube on my YZF600 and have installed them on other bikes, but not the FJ.

Motion pro makes a kit with a selection of wheels that can be used to dial in the throttle action you want. There is no FJ application, but I am sure that they can work with you based on some of the projects I have worked with in the past.

Looking forward to your next report on how it fits.

Right the throttle tube turned up perfect fit over the handle bar but in measuring th cam it is actually 1.5mm smaller than the fj item   :dash1: the iterating bit was the throttle housing has the same part number as the 3xw housing.
I'm now back to the drawing board on this one if have any developments I'll post them

Hmmmm interesting I'd mainly worry bout it failing and causing a stuck throttle. If I can get a pair of xw switch gear for a good price I'm gonna take a plunge on a proper r1 quick action throttle.

a little update after searching the interweb for a decent set of 3xw left and right switch gear that isn't going to upset the bank manager, I decided to look for other alternatives and came across the switch gear form a 2003 xjr1300 which would only require the plug modifying. Then i will be able to fit any quick action throttle for a 7/8 bar. I have tried to find out what the bar diameter the xjr1300 have but have been unable to find a positive yes they are 7/8 if anyone knows a definite size please let me know.

A little update the r1 quick action throttle turned up this morning. I have checked the cam sizes and there is a fair difference  :good2:
I'm now just waiting for the switch gear off a fzs to turn up then I can get stuck in.
