Highway pegs on Renntec bars

This is just a teaser as I am still working out the details. More details will be posted later. CutterBill did a mighty fine job of machining an idea I had for mounting FJ rear pegs to my Renntec bars. I sent him a drawing, he machined them up and I went to his place to collect them. Excellent host, beer and burgers. His machine shop in his detached garage/airplane hanger would make most of us drool, and he still has room in the garage in the house. If anyone needs machine work Bill's shop is open for quotes. I plan to paint the parts black so they blend in to the bars.

Monkey, do you find those foot pegs to be comfortable?

I have never spent any time riding with them, but when I sit on someones bike with them, they do not feel comfortable to me.

I'll have to try them out the next time we see each other.

I have not ridden on them yet, I only have one side installed and not even finished. My intent is to have a second position to rest my feet/knees during long rides. The brackets are not intended to take my full weight, just a second position for my knees.

That's exactly where I put mine. I have bad knees. So keeping them bent. They start hurting within a hundred miles. Since putting hyway pegs on I can ride all day. Put some on the 89 with engine mount plates. Till I get rentec bars for it too.
Would post pictures but only have them. In the gallery. And can't get them to post from there any more.

Monkey Looks like you drilled a hole through the bars. Just wondering if it would weaken them enough to worry. Maybe weld a sleeve in for the bolt to go through or am I worried about nothing?

I did drill through the center of the upper tube (8.2 MM dia) but I am not worried about any lost strength. I have seen where these bars take the hit, several times, the same bars in fact. The lower bar takes the brunt of the impact, if the bike rolls over enough then the upper bar takes a more distributed load. Besides, taking material out of the center has less impact on strength then removing it from the sides. I got the other side installed last night, so I might get a test ride in tomorrow. I need to take a few more photos and post up the drawing and "How To" in the files section. Then Bill can start taking orders.

I have read before about the highway peg setup on our J's and I moved my feet to the location just to get a little feel for the leg position and it did not feel very good for me but like some have said, for the long rides just to be able to move from that long static position would be great! Good job Mark, I have not ran a mill or turned steel in years and I really miss it.
