Just picked up a new to me 1986 Fj1200 that will be my winter project.  I have been a shade tree mechanic for a number of yrs and love to work on old mussel bikes.  This in-line FJ1200 is a dream to compared to the V65 I just let go.  Will never get another on of them!

Looks like this is a great place for information and learning the ins and outs of the good old FJ1200.  I know that each bike has its own little tricks to learn, I will read up and try to search before I ask too many questions.

Great board, glad everyone is here!

Welcome Tim, my favorite year (my first FJ love). Feel free to PM me on the quirks of the '86/'87 year. And there are many other '86/'87 owners out there so you have a really good support crew here. When the snow thaws you have the option to make a rally on your side of the states and meet other like minded nut jobs that think the invention of the FJ is better than sliced bread...  :good2:
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Hey Tim where abouts in Wisconsin. I'm in Fond du Lac. 86 fj1200 was the first bike I owned. Bought it new in 86 was the second one in Wisconsin. Put 14000 miles on it in 2 1/2 months and totalled it @ somewhere around 135mph. Owned several different bikes. And ended coming back to the fj/fjs. Got 4 one is crashed for parts though.

V65 saber? My buddy had one. Called it the pogostick. When he did Wheelie's with it, the whole thing would jump up off the ground. Because of the shaft drive. Funniest thing to watch

Welcome Tim. You will love that '86, check out Dan's (giantkiller) 1350 for an example of a nicely equipped 86. I'm also in Wisconsin near the Wis. Dells.            Cheers!                                                                                                                                                                                                                Charley.

Thanks for the friendly welcome, nice to see all the local Fj1200 owners in my area.  Lots of searching and reading to do. Again, great forum with what looks like a family type feel group.

Hi Tim- Welcome from Minnesota!  I just picked up an 89 FJ.  I hope to do a bunch of riding in Wisconsin next summer- hit the alphabet soup and a few others.  I think we are getting closer to having enough people to make an FJ meetup in the Midwest!

Welcome to the forum  :hi: Great looking FJ.

You and Neoday2 just missed this years Central FJ Rally in the Black Hills back in June. Next years Central Rally is a bit further west in Colorado.

After we all get our bikes ready this winter, we should do a MN/WI gathering and do a "alphabet soup" or whatever it is called in the south west corner of Wisconsin.  I think there are a few of us in the MN/WI area.

Howdy.  :bye:

I'm in Minneapolis, but I get out to WI at least a couple of times a summer.

I like the idea of a mini rally in WI this summer/fall.  I have an 11 (and counting) trip planned to head out west but I'll miss the FJ rally by about a week  :dash1:

actually, I like the idea of a double mini rally in WI in 2016- one in the spring and another in the fall.

Either way, should be a good winter for builds/fixing/dreaming!
