Blip Test

Thanks for all the good reading on the Blip Test, I am sure this is my issue.  I have a stock 86 that I just put together today thanks to the new carb parts from RPM.  I have a syn kit and took care of that after a good bench syn.  But now I think I might be either rich or lean.  I would guess lean, do to the bike wanting to stay at 3K after a good blip.

2 turns out to start but from the reading looks like I should be at least 2 1/2 out to start. I can get her to idle around 1k but when I ride her she wants to stay at 3K or so.  I can use the engine to more or less bring the it town to idle but that is the only way.

Just wanted to see how she ran, bought her without riding as she was not running.  Today's ride was 33 miles and I am very happy with this bike. From all the bikes I have owned through the yrs I can see why you all love the FJ1200 so much, nice riding bike with a comfortable are position and very little vibration.

Something as to be done with the front forks or at least mod them with the 88 or higher yrs.  That will be a must as the bumps on the side roads in WI are something else.

I put the Uni Pods on from RPM and was wondering if I should change out the stock jetting?  I will continue to search and read up on carb jetting.

Most of the other things on the bike that I have issue with are covered well here in the forum.

Time to start the wish list of parts and ebay looking.  Really like the looks of the USD forks and that 180 back tire is a must I think.  :good2:

If the rmp's hangs up high, you most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere.

I will do a vacuum test then, either with some smoke or starting fluid around the carbs.  If I had one of the carbs with a leak in the diaphragm would that do the same? Might have had a small leak in one of the carbs diaphragms, put it up to a bright light but look to be solid.  Even add just a bit of Ultra Black RTV, let it dry and then looked again.  Seemed to be okay.

I will pin it down today, thanks for the trouble shooting help.

Good old Blip Test did it, I was off by at least a full turn.  Now she runs well. quick up and down the tack range.  I did a leak check as well and didn't find anything so I can only guess it was just running too lean.

Need to start a list for the rear wheel conversion, pen and paper next to me as I hit ebay search.  That is unless someone has a great list they want to share?

Also a list for the front end, I really like the idea of changing out the forks to something lager then the stock 41mm.  I mean if your going to do it during the off season why not.  Need to do more reading on the USD conversion with all the good blue dot brakes and tire size.  Wish I had a really good motorcycle salvage yard near me.
