Hello all,
Thought I should share a story here. Found this 1986 FJ1200 on Ebay, only 10,730 original miles on the clock & a very clean example. PO included stock exhaust & seat. Bike has some cool upgrades including RPM petcock,IRIDIUM spark plus
Synthetic oil
K&N air filter
DELKEVIC short can exhaust
BLACK WIDOW free flow collector
RPM largest oil cooler & braided lines
RPM Oil filter adaptor (so you can use modern spin on filters)
HID Lighting
LED dash lights
Fork brace
Sport bike mirrors
Plus the Yamaha factory shop manual
So I saw it with 2 hrs to go & zero bidders. I ended up winning the thing for 2000.00$ I couldn't resist.
A little background on me, lifelong M/C guy former road-racer, been out of bikes last 5 yrs. I live in down State NY & road riding has zero appeal to me. I do plan to retire to N.H. in 2 years so I thought hey why not. As a former sport bike only guy & now 52 y.o. this FJ just spoke to me. I will be going over the whole bike. Suspension is a bit soft & worn brakes prob need some upgrades also. Not yet sure if I will do the 17" swap just yet. Glad to be joining the FJ community. Cheers to all. I am in Long Beach NY on Long Island so if anyone is local give a shout.

Welcome.
Always great to add another FJ owner to the loony bin!

Looks like you made a solid purchase with all the add ons.

I have the longer Delkevic mufflers on my 91, and really like them, but I have always wondered how those shorty cans sound.
If you ever get a chance to make and share a video of it running with a couple of revs, I'd appreciate it.

Don't worry about the 17" rear upgrade, as in it's nothing to be afraid of.
Most all of us have done it, and we simply love the change for the better it has made the FJ handle.
It also opens up a wide variety of tires to use, and the wide tire just looks "bad ass", (to steal a phrase from the HD crowd).

Welcome to the forum :hi:

You have found a rare FJ that has that many mods. Most that have modded their FJ's keep them for many many years. The easiest way to get better brakes is the 17" front wheel with '89 or later FJ1200 forks mod. Early years of R1, R6, FZ1, FZ6, FJR blue/gold/silver dot calipers bolt right up.
I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....
