Does anyone know of any QUIET muffler type (brands)  that fit a stock 4-2-2 collector for a 3CV 88-9 model FJ1200. Stock are no longer available. I had mine repacked and they are still on the loud side

Possibly SupperTrap slip on pipes. By removing some discs you make the pipes more restrictive and possibly quieter. I had a pair with 7 discs on each side and they were not real loud, but louder than stock.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

If you are looking for something that is specific for the FJ and has the mid-pipe included so that it just slides into the existing stock collector then check out this post.  At the bottom in my response I posted some links to Delkevic and Marving.  They are about the only two that still make systems specific for the FJ that I know of.

Delkevic have changed their website since then so this is a better link

There are members in the forum who have tried or are presently using the Delkevics, the Marvings I can't rememebr if anyone has the exact same system.  Maybe they can respond to noise levels etc.

I've got xj900 mufflers on mine, just need a piece of flat steel fitted to reach the original hanger mount. Not sure if later models fit though, mine are off a mid 80's model I think, that have the three rivets near the outlets, and curiously one outlet is bigger than the other.

Their pretty quite, and look good in chrome.

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

Thanks heaps for the info.  Bones. I like the look of yours. XJ900. Must look them up. However they to will be "rare" due to age and wear.   I've got Formula 1 mufflers on mine now. After a half hour my ears are ringing.
It's not overly loud, however I sent the to get repacked by the company and said I wanted them "quiet". I don't think they are any different from before other than they have been "repacked".  Looked for stock units, none around. To old or knackered. Someone said Triumph ones fit but I can't remember if that's correct.

I know that in the UK a common mod is to install XJR1300 mufflers. Here is an example.

Where are you located?
Are these the pipes that you are after?

I took mine off and put them in storage after replacing them with a complete Delkevic system.

If the baffles are left in it has a slightly more aggressive note but doesn't seem obnoxious to me. (All the other riders at my work keep telling me that I should throw the baffles away but I'm quite happy with the sound and volume)
I went the larger Delkevic as it was listed as meeting legal requirements and I didn't want to make it overly loud.

Vance2loud,  yep I think that's them. I'm in Melbourne. Are they the stock units?  are you selling them. Pm me if you wouldn't mind.  Jeff

I've recently gone through this, I had a Pipeline from the PO, angled up a bit steeply, it was irritating after about 10 minutes as it sounded like it was pointed directly at my ears.
The Delkevics are a nice note. I've tried with and without the 'bung' or baffle, both are good, and not too loud, but I did stay with the bung in.
I recently snavelled some originals off ebay & they are a lot quieter than any after market, however the Delkevic are not overly loud and the note is quite nice.
One thing I did notice is, with any pipe, the angle and position of the end really influences how much you hear the exhaust. I extended my new Delkevics waaay back, similar to what vance2loud shows. This makes the ride noise a lot quieter by throwing the sound further behind you.
Those XJR mufflers look pretty good though. Just about any muffler shop (for cars) can do the mid pipe mod for you if they don't fit the collector.
