Hi Folks,

I'm a newb but love my old girl. She is a '89 FJ1200 and won't start. All the lights come on, but nothing happens when pressing the start button. Starter motor and solenoid work. All the electrics seem to work. When I bypass the switch the starter motor turns over ok.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

Paul, check the kill switch. These are a fairly common problem on our maturing bikes. Electrical connections are another area that give rise to problems on older bikes. Regards, Pete.

Check your side stand switch as well. It is part of the kill switch system to prevent you from riding off with the stand down. If you still have the stock oil filter housing the wires can get pinched and damaged, even if they look good on the outside.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
