Can anyone speak to the handling and performance differences between the FJ stock in good condition and an F6 stock 97 tourer model?

My last bike was an 97 F6 tourer sold in 2001, liked it but was a bit heavy, and now want something more sporty, but the closest Ive ridden to an FJ was a 900RR back in 97, it was much sportier than the valkyrie.

 No real comparison.
The Valkyrie makes a ton of power down low, but nothing like the rush of power the FJ will give you mid to top.
The FJ carries its weight higher in the chassis and tends to change direction much easier, especially left to right transitions.
The FJ transmission shifts like a finely tuned switch watch in comparison to the Valkyrie.
The FJ riding position puts less stress on your torso at highway speeds offsetting the couchlike Valkyrie seat comfort.
The FJ has far more cornering clearance.
The FJ rear tire is a hell of alot easier to change for the average guy.

I had several customers with Valkyries when I worked in a bike shop. I test rode several, and borrowed a lightly modded one for a short trip. They were great bikes, but feel like very fast comfortable tanks, in comparison to the lean mean (in comparison remember) FJ.

Does this help?

yes, Thanks

I'm after an inexpensive sport tourer, and the FJ seems like a good choice

I was wondering about 80's vs 90's engineering, for example a 90's Kawawasaki ZZR1100 , ever ridden one?

ZZR vs FJ?

Bloke I ride with had a ZZR,sold to one of the blokes and bought a Vtwin Honda Firestorm, didn't like mucked around with a few retro bikes whilst waiting for a ZZR to come up EBay.Found one and had the front end done up as with first bike, happy as.
Given their age they are a weapon.  JMO
