I just purchased a 1987 FJ1200 that has 17 inch wheels and a super trap exhaust system on it. It came with the original wheels (red) and the original exhaust system. I'm looking for opinions on whether or not I should put the original wheels and exhaust back on. Does it increase the value to be all stock? Will it ride any different with the original 16 inch wheels? Thanks in advance for your opinions. I'm a new rider and appreciate your input. Dale P.S. I added a pic of my bike on my profile page but its sideways lol. Does anyone know how to rotate it? Thanks...

Here is my 2 cents.

An assumption has to be made that your '87 also has '89 or later forks with the 17" front wheel. 17" front and rear wheels allow for a much better selection of tire choices. Cycle Gear often has sales for sport -touring radials for $160.00 a set. Huge bang for your buck for tires. When i had the OEM wheels on my FJ, leaning into curves always felt twitchy. Once I went to a 17" rear wheel, I noticed an immediate improvement in handling.

As far as re-sale value of stock wheels versus the 17" wheels. Put the stock wheels away for safe keeping and enjoy the use of modern tire sizes. Same with the stock exhaust.

If you plan to ride and enjoy your FJ then keep the 17" wheels. They are a performance upgrade and anyone that has owned 16" wheels know how hard it is to find good tires. That alone is my strongest reason to keep the 17" wheels. Feel free to keep the original wheels if you ever sell it, the new owner may be a hard core Original Bike kind of person. Same for the exhaust, is the ST slip on cans or a full system?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

The super trap is a complete system (4 into 1). Thanks for the opinions guys...I think I'll stay with the 17 inch wheels. Dale
