I rebuilt the slave cylinder last week in anticipation of it's arrival, and changed the oil and filter while everything was off. I really like the looks of the Skidmarx lower, though I do have an issue with the fitment at the very rear (on both sides it sticks out more than I would like). I've already talked to the US supplier and sent a couple pics, he'll review it with the Brits tomorrow and get back to me. I think the white was a good choice of colors, as I don't know how soon I'll be able to get it to the body shop to have the upper half painted.

This is a well thought out two piece kit, so pulling just the right side off should make oil changes fairly easy. I especially like that it uses all the existing factory mounting points, so no drilling of the frame is necessary. And for $250 shipped I think it was a great deal.

Paul,

If you don't already have one installed, I would Highly recommend the RPM oil cooler. The full lowers will trap extra heat in.

IMO, once you get the upper section painted blue, the reverse scoop will disappear in the darker paint.
Once painted I am sure it will look awesome, can't wait to see the finished product.

Having installed lowers on my 84 I'm all too familiar with how much heat they retain. I've already got plans for upgraded cooling that should help alleviate any issues (at least I hope lol). The rear facing vent isn't as obtrusive as the pics show, so I'm not too worried about getting it painted for now. I'm enjoying riding it too much to lay it up for painting anyway, so I'll probably wait until winter time to dye the seat and paint the lower at the same time.

Personally, I think that looks like crap.  (everyone is entitled to an opinion)
One of the neatest things about the FJ is that incredible engine hanging out there in the breeze.

Why would you want to cover that up?

I am partial to lowers that allow the engine guards from RPM... I have seen way too many crashes and rides home that justify the need....

You are indeed entitled to your own opinion. Me: I love the look of a fully enclosed bike. Always have and always will, hence my decision to install this fairing.

Personally, I like my engine bars, but yours makes for an interesting look.

Different from the "norm", and not in a bad way.

I would really like to see it when you get them painted.

Do your own thing.   :good:

Sorry, I should have been more diplomatic.

It's great that you're making the bike uniquely yours.

Kind of reminds me of the Hurricane with the full fairings.

Finally got some blue laid on yesterday and bolted things back on today. Next week I'll mask off the blue and spray the white, then add a red pinstripe to separate them. Over the winter I'll have the side covers redone to exclude the darker blue and relocate the same red pinstripe, so everything should look pretty good. Went for a nice 170 mile ride with Tom (Wildfire) today and stopped for a quick bite to eat.

I took the FJ to South Dakota for the 4th of July weekend and I will say I really enjoyed the heat the rear vents pushed onto my legs when it was only 52 degrees out. I didn't like it so much today when in was 90 plus lol!
