no power and back fire

hey guys got the bike up and running after 6 yrs.  so its running but doesn't really have any power and back fires quite a bit when u come off the throttle and at low speeds.  thanks for the help I'm not to advanced in motors lol

Sounds like the carbs need a real good cleaning, the kind of clean you get with an ultrasonic cleaner.

FJmonkey is probably right on with the carbs needing to be cleaned after they have been sitting for 6 years. They are pretty simple but require some paying attention to details.

Are you comfortable with doing the job ? Have you ever had the FJ carbs off before ? What year is your bike ? I apologize for the intrusive questions but it helps us if we know if you are set up with the tools and space to do the job etc..  Lots of good help here when it comes to carbs. Also to get familiar with the carbs check out the "Files" section.

thanks guys. and yes the carbs were just out and cleaned replaced jets and needle values.  the bike is a 86 fj1200

I don't mean to be harsh but your approach to your fork fix makes me wonder if a similar approach was used on the carbs.... The carbs need to be really clean and all the passages open. You cannot find Kookaloo with shitty carbs (clutch) etc.... Perhaps I am over stepping but I am judging by the symptoms. Might I recommend using RPM for a Carb overhaul... Many have been very happy with the results...
