Thanks for the replies folks. Yes it started right up and keep running. purred like a lion[vipers]. I have the relay off now and was about to order a new one,but after reading replies I better do some more checks first. I know when i turn it on and run switch on i can hear the fuel pump[i think] ticking until it stops.does that rule out anything? I will take apart and clean all appropriate connectors with tooth brush and wd40 oil but to be honest they looked ok last time i checked. Never looked at start button before so will check that too.

That is normal for the fuel pump, once the engine is running it turns back on. No need to pump if you are not using fuel.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I guess I was trying ta take it one step of info (each way) at a time. I was gunna suggest that if it runs I use my multimeter probes to test  power to the relay. However if the start switch is a ground switch (Have never checked on the FJ but I assume it would be) I`d go about it differently....but still easy.
Now the relay is off, you can test with power thru through the relay internal coil and someone else checking the main terminals with a multimeter....unless you can rig a powered globe to the circuit. (Not all starter relays click when power is run thru their starter contacts....not sure about FJ...never tried it.)....An auto elec would check it for free if you`re a good catholic.
That bike appears to have had a life by the sea or at least a salty environment. Hence a bit of a history of electrical probs, so I`d give your starter button switch a bit of love anyhow.  :drinks:

I live by the sea. I bought the bike from a town on the sea. Hell im from Ireland. surrounded by the stuff. Im not great with a multimeter so i think i'll bring it to an auto spark.thanks

skik, things like living on an island. Very important information. I'm not getting after you but would like to suggest that putting your location in your profile may help in the future. You do not need to give your exact location, just something close will do. I live in a desert, so this changes the advise you will be given. Just trying to help.
