A piece of guitar string heated and melted in place. Has now worked for 3k miles no problem. If you don"t look as close as the macro shot you can't tell it is not original.

Just food for thought, I still see people posting having issues with the needle jumping sides.

Neat. I superglued a small nail (painted black) to the clock face. From a distance, like normal viewing, it's undetectable. It is not as invisible as your method at close range, so if I had to do it again I'd err on the guitar string idea - if I..er...had a guitar string of course.
