Picture re-sizing

Is there some way that all pictures, no matter what size they are when uploaded to the forum can be re-sized so that they are downloaded to the members at a standard size?
OR limit the uploaded size as the avatar feature does now.

I'm thinking that a 600x800 or a 1024x768 pixel size should be sufficient for showing each other what we've been up to.
A "full HD" screen is only 1980x1024 and any resolution above that does nothing but add overhead to both the computer displaying it and increasing data transfer times and charges.

What I'd ideally like to see is a standard sized pic (say 600x800 px) embedded in the list with the ability to go full screen and "full HD"by clicking on those pics you want to see maximum detail in.
