Went on a short 175 mile ride to and from a semi-pro hill climb event. The sport has always interested me, but somehow I have never made it to one, until today.

Event was held in Red Wing, MN by a motorcycle club that dates back to 1948 http://www.indianheadmc.org/index.php/sample-page/ The site of the hill climbs was initially supposed to be a ski jump, back in the day.

View from the bottom to the top 300+ feet of run:

View from the top looking down to the start line:

Riders await their runs:

One the bikes catching some air off of the first jump out of the gate:

Another getting some air off the last of three jumps:

The charge to the top:

Some of the more interesting machines at the event...

A Harley-Davidson. Year unknown:

A relatively modern? KX Kawasaki with a H2 Mach IV engine stuffed into its chassis:

The pipes on it, were a work of art:

Here's a throwback. A '47 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead  ;

The owner informed me that it was a true survivor. It started its hillclimbing career in 1959! It takes off in third gear, and stays there. Must, look at the size of that rear sprocket:

Talk about old school, check out the Knucklehead's Dead Man's switch. A set of ignition points:

Good experience, and glad I attended it.

Thanks Charely.

I plan on being down near PDC this coming weekend, but on the other side of the River, in IA. Never been there, and there's supposed to be some good roads and Scenic Byways. You're welcome to ride along if you'd like.

If the weather forecast holds true, it's going to be awesome, and so will the Fall colors too!  :good2:
