JBM diaphragms update

Hello all,

Around April last year I installed JBM diaphragms and was very happy with the results.  The other day I decided to clean the carbies and add some bits.  When I took the diaphragms out I was very happy how well they have stood up over the year and a bit.  The slide had spun a little on two of the carbs, so I will use super glue to stop the slide from spinning.  JBM recommend super glue if needed to secure the diaphragms on the slide.

Over the past year Randy did some tests with the JBM rubbers and noted that they were stiffer than OEM and may affect running of the engine in higher rev range.  He was right, they are stiffer, but for my riding I was happy to sacrifice a little.  When I looked at the rubbers the other day, I noticed they are quite "floppy."  very similar to OEM.

I am guessing this is due to time and exposure to fuel vapour.  I have also used a fuel additive to clean the carbs.  JBM suggest people to NOT use fuel system cleaners either in the fuel or sprayed through the air box.  Doing so will cause the rubbers to swell.  Mine have not swollen.

So all up, a good purchase.  They are in great shape after over a year, they have lost their stiffness so future users could bear in mind that the rubber's flexibility should return.

I hope this helps people in their choice of diaphragms, these OEM alternatives are worth every penny.

Cheers, Gareth

Thanks Gareth, it's good when testimonials like this are passed on. I will file it for future reference.
