hello to all our beloved fj owners.. it has been a while since I have posted anything on this form.... I was out messin around with my fj and discovered an interesting idea... I ran into a problem with my battery not being charged and ready to hit the road in the morning and when i got off work..since im sorta a cheapskate and cant really afford a new battery, i came up with this sweat idea with a battery charger i had laying around...

i bout this charger from walmart for i think around $20... it is very light weight.. and easy to use... it comes with battery connectors that u can leave on the battery while u are on the road... please make good use of this idea for your bike and spread the word....

It will be interesting to see how long a $20 charger will last on a vibrating, rough riding FJ. Anyone want to have a guess and a bet?    Pete.   :bomb:

I have one of these hooked up to every vehicle at the house:

You hard-wire the SAE plug lead to your battery and have the tail coming out from under the side fairing.  Dead-simple to plug it in when you park the bike for the week and is a true 3-stage charger.  The "brains" of the operation are all contained in the "wall wart", so if you wanted to take it with you when you travel, it would be easy...and durable.  They also come with the alligator clips for temporary use on other batteries you may have lying around.  Best of all, these are easily found for around $25.
Cap'n Ron. . .

Mike:

Your display of resourcefulness is commendable. You are not alone in being a cheapskate here either. I spend wisely in some areas, so that I can have the money for other more personally important things or experiences. To each their own.

I've been (and not) surprised by the quality and quality of cheap items that I've bought. Your Walmart special, may prove very durablel and perform well, until you can buy a new battery. I would suggest buying a good quality battery when you do, especially if you plan on keeping your FJ for awhile.

Thanks for the post :good2: ... I knew I wasn't the only one in this world who likes to be resourceful... I just thought that this was the easiest way to charge my battery while I was at work so I didn't have to always need a push start or a quick jump.... I'm glad everyone has spotted my post, and hope they put this idea to use and spread the word :bye2:

Long live Walmart...  Or you could save up for a decent battery, the AGM type from RPM (or anywhere) is awesome. It cranks like you stole it every time and holds a charge. I kept my old battery on a Battery Tender and got 3 to 4 years out of it. My AGM battery from RPM is on its third year without a tender and it cranks well after three weeks. You get the quality you pay for.... If you have to jump it, dump it...  :empathy2:
