I recently was on a longer ride on my new bike and noticed that the stock seat was not the most comfortable seat in history.  :dash1:
The Corbin seats are expensive (In my opinion) even used, so I took a different approach. I took the cover off my stock seat and sat on it on the bike and marked how I sat comfortably with a marker on the foam. I took a knife and started hacking at it (About 2") and when I was done I took a hot knife and sealed and smoothed everything over and covered it again.
I took the bike for a ride and now I have the similar support/feel of my buddies Corbin seat for little investment of time.
No matter you look at it, it's a lot better for long rides, with a stock look!

I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

Looks good.

A hint for others wanting to duplicate this:  Buy an electric carving knife (or make damned sure the wife doesn't catch you) at the junk shop for $5.  It's the perfect tool for cutting seatfoam.

Got my corbin for $50 used, but I was on the verge of doing almost exactly the same thing you did.  I wanted a bigger step for my ass to slide against for dragstrip launches.

I wanted to give an update to this post because yesterday I went for riding for about 6.5 hours and it was great!
After riding the FJ for a few hours before the seat modification I would "notice the seat", it never bothered me bad, but I defiantly knew I was on a bike for hours.
Now after the seat modification, I rode yesterday for about 6.5 hours almost straight and it was great, I didn't "notice the seat" at all, nothing!
Just wanted to let you guys know my experience for a free mod that might help a little.

Hi,i just read your post on the seat modification. Sounds good(looks GREAT!!) I'm curious though, what is your weight & height (inseam?) I'm thinking those details will affect the outcome! Also agree with another post regarding the electric carving knife-SWEET!!!! You can shave the foam so thin you can see through it. Also have used an air powered sander. It works good to smooth & blend things a bit-BUT be careful!!!! BTW,i have a perfect Corbin seat (Blue piping & no backrest fitting) I've tried the seat off-n-on for over a year & i don't like it. I'd like $175.00 for it. Call Paul @ 812-327-9654 or e-mail me. Happy Thanksgiving to one & all.  Paul   mosickledude@yahoo.com
