Stripping forks

 I'm doing the seals on my fj do I need a special tool to strip  the forks  I've popped the top cap of and removed the springs etc  but the Allen bolt at the bottom is just turning in the leg ? Cheers stu

You have a couple of choices.

Put the spring and spacer back in and the top cap on.  This will put some force on the damper rod and maybe help it not spin.  An airgun on the allen bolt helps.  You could also try whacking the allen wrench with a hammer.

If that fails, you can make a tool that fits the 27mm hex in the top of the damper rod.  An 18mm (thread size) bolt has a 27mm head.  Check the files for making this tool.   You hammer a deep well socket onto the threaded end.

You can also grind a bolt or plug to fit.  Again there should be more details in the files section.

Here are some pictures that might help. 10mm hex in the bottom and a 27mm bolt head with an old socket welded to the bolt shaft (might be able to jam fit an old socket on it and do the same thing)
