5K Flashback

On May 1 I weighed 206 lb and I decided "ok that's it, time to get fit".  I set goals of 185 for my 67th birthday (7/6) and 165 for 1/1/2015 and the rest of the movie. 165 is my theoretical ideal weight (I'm 5'10").

I started logging/reducing my caloric intake and running. It is not so much what you eat as what you DON't eat. My mantra is "if you ain't hungry enough to eat celery you ain't hungry enough". 

Today I'm at 190 and I just ran my first 5K in 3 years. It was damn hilly I can tell ya but I finished in the middle of the pack with a bit of kick for the finish stretch.

Git 'er done!

As I stood in the "grid" waiting for the start it was like old times waiting for the flag to drop at one of the Helotes Texas Hare and Hound's I used to race an SL125 Honda in  75 pounds ago.  Gosh, those were good times. You don't have to be a great talent to have a great time racing.

Got me thinking about building a TT500 for some vintage flat tracking. 
Well, "dreaming" more than "thinking" I guess.

But some dreams do come true - I've got an FJ1200 sitting in the garage after all.

Serious Congrats Burnsey. Those little 125`s are still great fun....Even more so if your a heavyweight. (according ta Megsy). One of them is my next dream bike.

The 125's (and every thing else) have come a long way since the SL125 was a competitive woods bike. Mine had a 305 Honda sleeve and piston giving me 144cc's and it was still down more than a bit on power from the Pentons or even the Combat Wombats.  But it was about impossible to drown and you know the old saying "to finish first you must first finish"

"Combat Wombat" WTF was Hodaka thinking when they named this?
Must have been the illiteration, as you just couldn't mistake a wombat as a combat inspiration.

206 to 165, should be about the same as a 1350 kit.

My second bike was an Ace 100B+ with a Super Rat top end.

Then there was the Road Toad and the Dirt Squirt.

The 250 Thunder Dog race bike was actually a class leader for a few years back in the late '70s

Hodaka had some cool names and some great bikes. Never owned one myself but I had friends who did. They are having "Hodaka days" at Athena, WA at the end of June with a bike raffle.  Dave

I had one back in the 70's, not exactly sure now even which model is it was but it was some of the best off road fun I ever had, weighed nothing (a novelty back in those days) and went like stink. I loved the names.

In the era when CZ's were world class MXers Hodaka was competitive in all sorts of dirt events for many years on basically the same ultra simple design.  Of course that world changed with the 125 Elsinor, arguably the first real race ready dirt bike for the masses from Japan.

I cut them into 3 inch lengths and keep them in dill pickle juice - not  a bad little zero calorie munchie.

206 to 165, should be about the same as a 1350 kit.
