why can i not buy a choke knob?my local dealer said i have to buy the whole cable as the knob comes with it,yet there is a little screw holding the knob to the cable.can i buy a knob of another bike that will fit?

Tis one of the great mysteries of the FJverse.  Many FJ'ers have spent many alcohol induced hours plumbing the thought processes of Maester Yamahaha as he decided not to make the knob available for the FJ series bikes, but available for the FZ and FZR series (possibly other Yamaha models as well).

However, fear not good sir.  The FZ/FZR knobs (85-86 at the least) knobs are interchangeable with ours.  Just bear in mind that the word choke may be aligned 90o in comparison to the knob for the FJ.

Oh, and the knob screw can often be found vastly cheaper in your local hardware store (such as ACE).  It's a 2x6 mm.
