Cooked Metalcast

Dropped my exhaust and removed the metalcast paint from the cans. Repainted my down tubes.
The cans were turning orange and the down tubes needed to be resprayed. I used a can of paint
on them this winter. That particular can had lousy coverage. This can had good heavy paint but the color
may be a little different.

The heat must be over 500 deg. f. on the cans

No other alternative than to polish them.

The first can of fireproof VHT was a lobster red. This pics was taken after the initial cure, running the bike for
20 minutes. I'll do some riding and cure it the rest of the way. It may change color.

Aluminum cans... you could always have them anodized in red.     :shok:

You won't be baking that stuff off.

Anodized Red aluminum will turn Pink quite quickly with heat... Heat is a way to age Aluminum quickly and the Anodize die also breaks down quickly....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Really?

I'd been told in the past that the aluminum would melt before the anodized finish was harmed.

All colored (died) anodized will fade with heat and time. It will not fade with heat and time if it is a 2-step anodize (architectural grade finish). But the color is limited to a gradual yellow, bronze, brown then nearly black....

Remembering back to my drafting years, anodize drawing note; Zinc plate and yellow chromate.
A process like that gonna cost un montón de dinero, red or yellow.

I'm hoping RPM'S 4-2-1 is within my price reach. Maybe they'll do a layaway.
