Sorry guys Im putting a FZR1000 GENESIS rear wheel on my 89 FJ.Thanks for everybodys input.I had looked on the FJ MODS web site and a guy had all the information on the rear wheel swope. It looks like I need a 133mm spacer made.
THANKS GUYS :good2:

I know there are many different POV's on how to put the FZR1000 89-up rim on their FJ's, but I am still partial to the work I had done on mine.  The shop machined the hub and the brake stay, as well as the counter sprocket and cover and bent the brake stay arm.  I can use any FZR1000 89-up rim because the hub is a direct fit.  They also pressed new bearings into the hub.  It cost about $350 with shipping and all, but it is well worth the money IMO.  I have an extra rim so when it is time to change the tire I just switch out the rim and tire.

Later... :bye2:

Or you could go with a Brembo rear caliper off of a Ducati 961 (1990 FZR 1000 wheel).  This was done to my 1989 FJ in May 1997.

These pictures I took below are 5 years old - before powdercoating and polishing the wheels and anodizing the caliper hanger black.  I'll have to take some more recent pics.

Another OLD pic (5 years old - before the YZF600 front end upgrade etc.) - but if you look close you can see the custom made HOLLOW rear axle:

There should be a protuberectomy on the offending piece.

Yes there should be...Pat has offered MANY times to clean that up for me!  (I think it is a yearly tradition)  :)   I also forgot to mention that the hollow rear axle was an unexpected gift from Rittner when he stopped by for a Super Bowl party...thanks again Rittner - I should have you over more often!  I know you had the end welded on...but what bike was that axle off of anyways?

Marsh is that the stock rear axle machined out?  Is the purpose of the hollow axle is to have less weight?

Also on your brake arm did you have a tab welded on for attachment or where is the mounting point I can't tell from the pic.  I'm trying to get an alternative to welding a tab on my brother's bike like I did with mine for the rear wheel mod. Did you have that arm made up or was that of another stock bike?

I think it was an R6 axle, which comes hollow in stock form.  Boring/gun drilling a stock axle would be a wasted effort, as it is cheap mild steel.  At least the R6 axle is some kind of alloy.  All the Thunderace/YZF750/R1/R6 axles are hollow.  I just picked one that was the same diameter as stock.  IIRC, I shortened the shaft by machining off the flat end for correct length.  Then bored a standard R1/R6 axle nut, inserted the shaft, and had it welded.

The whole point was to save weight.  That solid stock axle weighs a ton.  And I did it just because nobody else had done it.  Once I converted the swingarm and wheel to Ace, I didn't need it, so I donated to a good home.  It goes well with Marsh's other custom machined stuff and Duc 916 caliper.  Would be kind of overkill on a piggishly heavy stock bike, but in reality you have to start somewhere to save weight, and unspring weight is prime.

Also the Axle is not quite twice as strong in compression and tension seeing as though you just added two more surfaces to load on.

Also the FZ1 has a hollow shaft.

Can you rephrase your point in English?
