Hi, does anyone know if a 84 Goldwing clutch master cylinder will work on my 84FJ?  I found one in excellent shape that I may buy if its compatible. The other option is the new Chinese VFR800 set Fred talked about using in a post last June. Any advice on  either of these options?

Thanks! Charley

Charley, can't tell you anything about the Goldwing m/c but the VFR800 m/c is a good mod. I fitted mine a few years ago and I can't fault it in any way.
It's a basic bolt on change-over, with no other mods required. Having a 14mm bore has made clutch lever pull very easy, even with the doubled-up diaphragm springs. The adjustable lever is a worthwhile bonus, spare parts are cheap and easily obtained and it's also is a good looking unit.  Regards, Pete. :good2:

No way to know without trying, never heard of someone doing that swap. There's probably *some* way to get it to work, they're pretty universal parts, it just might take some trouble getting it to fit... Look up bore size.

Safer to go with known mods, of course.

Can you give a link to where Fred talks about chinese VFR800 M/C's? I haven't seen that post, I might add it to the wiki.

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

I must say that the above post of mine refers to a GENUINE HONDA VFR clutch m/c and not the Chinese knock-offs. I'm not sure of the reliability and suitability of these copies but they are cheap enough. Having said that, genuine VFR m/c's are fairly cheap on ebay and that would be my preferred option. Pete.

Pete, are you using the same m/c Fred was talking about last june? Those appear to be decent units and the price is awesome for both brake and clutch. Im still not sure about the Goldwing unit, but am going to check it out this weekend. If it doesnt work out I will order the VFR units./Thanks again! Charley.  ,quote]

The post on the VFR800 master cylinders is un der files section and clutch files. Then find "Honda clutch master cylinder mod"by AviationFred. Scroll down to end of Freds last post and there is a E bay site attachment to click on. Looks like pretty decent stuff!                                                                          Good night.Charley              :morning2:
