Rear brake pad service question

I just removed my rear brake pads and took notice that the pads had 2 shims on them.  Do I need to remove them and place them on the new pads (EBC).  It did not seem to mention them as being required?  And correct me if I am wrong...but if they are needed, do the arrows on the shims face forward?

Thanks a bunch,
Dean

Many times the shims are an anti-squeal material... Can you describe the shims with more detail?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Hi there, Mark.  They are a thin metal material that clips on the back of each pad where the piston obviously presses up against.  They cover approximately half of the back of each pad.

Thanks for your help,

Yep, half.  I just had another look.  They are cut on a diagonal and have an arrow pointing in one direction...

Just trying to figure this one out.  I would also like to know what are their purpose?  :unknown:

Thanks,

Yeah, that's an anti-squeal shim.  Just snap it onto the back of your new brake pads and life will be good (and quiet).   :good2:

Thanks, Ron.
I will place them on the new pads.  Do the arrows point forward as indicated on the pads?
